Gillette, an official sponsor of Major League Baseball, chose SIA Interactive to develop a virtual baseball game as part of a promotion that took place during the baseball tournament held from August 5-September 11.

Major League Baseball is the most important baseball event in the world and it brings together the best teams of America in a single league. This is a significant sports event in this region and major brands don't want to miss out. As an official sponsor of the competition, this year Gillette wanted to develop a whole new kind of promotion.

To do so, Gillette hired SIA Interactive of Puerto Rico to implement a virtual baseball game at the Wal Mart stores and Supercenters that the chain operates on the island.

This modern, technological solution helped to transmit the innovative image that Gillette was looking for.

To participate in the promotion, participants had to buy a Gillette, Oral-B or Duracell product. The game was mounted on a platform that was decorated like a baseball field. Players took hold of a bat equipped with a sensor and had to swing at the ball thrown by the onscreen pitcher.

The promotion took place at 24 Wal Mart branches on weekends. Most of the time, there were lines to play and many players asked whether the game was available on CD Rom. In just four hours each day, the high level of participation also led to a rise in the sale of Gillette products.

“The initiative to implement an innovative solution totally fulfilled our expectations. Each time the game was set up, there was plenty of traffic, and the game led to a rise in our sales. We were also able to present Gillette as a different, innovative company. The promo was a real hit”.
