October 2003 - Madrid, Spain.
With 21 different stages, 22 teams, and 200 cyclists, the
Spain Bicycle Tour pedaled across nearly 3,000 kilometers.
The tour ended on 28 September in the Paseo de la Castellana
in Madrid. Ford collaborated in the event by offering more
than 100 assistance vehicles, which were used in the event
for cyclist support and for promotion. Among the vehicles,
there were 30 new Ford Focus C-MAX.
As part of its participation, the automobile company offered
different recreational activities and entertainment in each
stage of the tour. One of these activities was the race against
the clock, which SIA Spain installed in a truck that accompanied
the circuit.
For this race, 5 participants got on bicycles equipped with
sensors, buttons, and monitors, and they raced to cover as
much terrain as possible in 90 seconds. To advance, players
pedaled and moved the handlebars as if they were in a real
bicycle race. In order to allow the 5 participants to compete
in the same race, SIA Spain installed its SIA-MP1 multiplayer
engine, a proprietary technology of SIA Sistemas. A giant screen showed images of the race
to the public; these images were taken from different overhead
views.
"In events like this one, I know that we can count on SIA
Spain, because they are able to adapt developments to a client's
needs. In this case, they developed a bicycle race, and we
know that if tomorrow a client asks for a Formula 1 competition,
we will be able to offer it. In addition, their service was
impeccable".
