August 2003 - Buenos Aires,
Argentina.
Every year since 1992, this special program has been aired
on Children's Day. Since 1996, SIA Sistemas has been a part
of this drive to raise funds for needy children in Argentina
by designing interactive games for the program. This year,
the program was hosted by a local clown, Piñón Fijo, who was
accompanied by other local celebrities whose shows air on
Channel 13.
As always, the games combined the participation of the celebrities
in studio with the television audience by phone. If the celebrity
won the game, the caller won a prize from one of the important
companies that sponsored the event. The games presented by
SIA Sistemas included the Personal Screaming Race, two question-and-answer
trivia games (one for Channel 13 and one for Ayudín bleach),
and a Pacman game for supermarket chain Disco.
This year, the star of the interactive games was a 3-D bicycle
race. This was a competition between two teams, each comprised
of a celebrity and a caller. On screen, there is an urban
scene with a bike trail. To advance along the trail, the two
celebrities in studio have to pedal on two normal bikes installed
with sensors. At home, callers have to direct the cyclists
by using their phone keys. To complete the game, SIA Sistemas
installed its own SIA-iTV equipment
at Channel 13. This equipment recognizes the tones emitted
by the telephone keyboard and sends the instructions to a
computer by means of a series port. Thus callers could control
the movements of the bicycles as if they were using a joystick.
The program ended with its usual car raffle; the drawing included
all people who had made donations. SIA Sistemas collaborated
in this finale, which was developed with 3-D technology, in
conjunction with the firms Atento (Telefónica) and Avaya.
"We appreciate the work done by SIA Sistemas. Their games
have become a classic within the program. I was particularly
impressed with the versatility of the SIA-iTV equipment used
in the bicycle race in which callers participated by using
their telephones. Besides serving as an interesting mechanism
for public television, every aspect of the job was well-done".
